La Soiree @ La Soirée's Spiegeltent Review

Situated off of the Southbank, La Soiree is the kind of wonderful escapism one can usually only imagine. If you follow the signs from the main riverfront, you will stumble upon the stunningly crafted Spiegeltent, full of beautiful people and alluring cabaret music. We were greeted and shown to our seats by fabulously dressed hosts and readied ourselves for the nights entertainment.

La Soiree is a different world. Even before the acts took to the stage, the tent was alive with excitement and the alternative crowd were raucous and ready for a great evening of entertainment. The show is really something that can only be believed when seen: daring feats, elaborate costumes and hilarious comedy. We were constantly surprised with original and unique talents from all over the world. I would hate to spoil the wonder of watching the show for yourself but some personal highlights were the astounding and witty acrobatic duo The English Gents. There was the tap-dancing, hula-hooping, skipping sensation that was the cheeky, Jess Love. Scotty the Blue Bunny was campy fun and the naughty Asher Treleaven had the crowd in fits.

La Soiree is a perfect example of the spontaneity and thrill of live entertainment. This variety show was a glorious spectacle of skill and showmanship throughout and was fabulous escapism and entertainment on an otherwise dreary and damp November evening. The crowd seemed to love every minute and I would urge you to see it during its short ten week run at the Southbank Centre. 5/5
