The Ultimate Actor's Showcase, Monologue Slam @ Theatre Royal Stratford East!

Just over 10 years ago, actors Fraser Ayres (BBC’s Casulty, Waterloo Road) and Jimmy Akingbola (BBC’s REV, Holby City)  founded a little known company, going by the name of TriForce Promotions. The aim was to create opportunities for performers to hone their craft, and to bridge the gap between industry professionals and aspiring actors. In 2009, Monologue Slam made its debut at a London venue, and ever since, has gone from strength to strength. Garnering the interests of industry professionals and actors alike, Monologue Slam is renowned for it’s impressive judging panels, varying from BBC casting directors to agents.

Charlie Cussons
Winner of 1 Minute Smack Down

Comprising of 3 rounds ; Junior Slam, 1 Minute Smack Down and 3 Minute Heavy Weight Monologue, performers are given the platform to showcase what they can do, so its imperative to choose a monologue that impresses on the night. Winners on the night included Charlie Cussons, who impressed with a monologue from Kindness written by Julian Poidevin and Alexander Forsyth, who delivered a thought provoking monologue from Tribes, written by Nina Raine. Reigning champions Kathleen Stavert and Michael Amaning returned to defend their titles, whilst the audience were treated to some comedy from Improv Group, Shoot from the Hip, and music from talented singer Wreh-Asha. Before the event, I was lucky enough to talk to Monologue Slam’s Creative Associate Chizzy Akudolu who currently stars in Holby City as Mo Effanga, and star of BBC3’s Coming of Age series and Creative Director, Minnie Crowe.
