Lady Gaga launches sold-out UK & Europe leg of ‘The Mayhem Ball Tour’ with first of four shows in London
Last night, 14-time GRAMMY® and Emmy Award winner Lady Gaga launched the sold-out UK/Europe leg of her MAYHEM Ball tour with the first of four nights at The O2 in London. The show featured a surprise appearance from Wednesday stars Emma Myers and Evie Templeton who joined Gaga onstage for a stunning performance of her current hit single “The Dead Dance.”
The performance drew rave reviews, with The Independent calling it “the concert of the year” and The Times lauding it as “pop opera at its finest.” The iPaper described the evening as “utterly magnificent,” while The London Standard noted, “If we could give this show six stars we would.” BBC News said Gaga was “a pop star operating at the peak of her powers,” and the Financial Times hailed it as “an expert piece of pop musical theatre.”
Produced by Gaga and Michael Polansky, The MAYHEM Ball expands on the conceptual world introduced at Coachella, with direction by Ben Dalgleish (Human Person), creative direction by Gaga, Polansky, Parris Goebel and Human Person, choreography by Goebel, and costumes styled by Hunter Clem, Gaga’s sister Natali Germanotta (Topo Studio) and HARDSTYLE.
Since it launched on July 16 in Las Vegas, Gaga’s The MAYHEM Ball tour has earned rave reviews from critics. The New York Times praised it as “a hit-filled, deliciously campy extravaganza” and a “crowning moment” that finds Gaga “operating at the peak of her powers,” while Rolling Stone highlighted her creative evolution, writing that she “didn’t just revisit [Coachella]—she expanded it, sharpened it, sprinkled in some nostalgia, and fully realized the gothic dream she had only just introduced.” The Chicago Sun-Times called the show “a daring theatrical masterpiece that gives Broadway a run for its money,” and The Seattle Times hailed it as “the most imaginative and immersive arena tour of the summer.” Varietydescribed it as “a breathless, finely tuned spectacular…a reminder of Gaga’s many talents and how she’s continued to refine them,” and Billboard praised it as “a theatrical, electric and delicious live affair.”
The sold-out tour celebrates Gaga’s latest studio album, MAYHEM, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200—her seventh consecutive No. 1 solo album—and remained a dominant global force, topping the Dance/Electronic Albums chart for 17 weeks, spending 12 weeks in the Top 20, and holding a Top 10 spot on the Pop Albums chart for 15 consecutive weeks. Executive produced by Gaga, Polansky, and Andrew Watt, and produced by Gaga, Watt, Cirkut, and Gesaffelstein, it has since been certified Platinum by the RIAA.
Her record-breaking collaboration with Bruno Mars, “Die With a Smile,” further cemented the album’s impact. It spent 18 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200, hit No. 1 on the Hot 100 for five weeks, and broke Spotify records as the fastest song to surpass both 1 billion (96 days) and 2 billion (200 days) streams.
Most recently Gaga debuted her latest single, “The Dead Dance,” which was released alongside a cinematic video directed by Tim Burton and produced by Gaga, Polansky, Burton, and Natalie Testa — marking Gaga’s first creative collaboration with Burton. Critics described it as “haunting” and “a bouncy 1980s-inspired banger” (Billboard), calling it “a soaring pop track” with “a serious dance-ready beat” (Rolling Stone), noting how Gaga delivers it over an “infectious bassline, ‘Thriller’-esque synths and licks of electric guitar” (NME).
The MAYHEM Ball follows Gaga’s headlining performances at Coachella and a landmark series of international shows, including stadium dates in Mexico City and Singapore this past spring. In Rio de Janeiro, her free show at Copacabana Beach drew an estimated 2.5 million fans—setting a new record for the highest attended concert by a female artist in history.
The tour continues with three more London shows this week before moving on to multiple nights in Manchester, Stockholm, Milan, Barcelona, Berlin, Amsterdam, Antwerp, and Lyon, and will close the European leg with four performances at Accor Arena in Paris. Gaga will finish the year with shows in Australia before heading to Japan in January.
Following incredible fan demand, a second North American leg has been added for next year, launching Saturday, February 14in Glendale, AZ at Desert Diamond Arena. The run will include new stops in Fort Worth, Atlanta, Austin, Washington, DC, and more. Gaga has also expanded her record-breaking runs in Los Angeles and New York, adding four more shows in LA and three more in NYC — bringing the totals to eight and nine nights in each city on the MAYHEM Ball tour.
