Moco Museum Presents The Onyx Be@rbrick: Turning an Icon into Timeless Art

Moco Museum London presents The Onyx Be@rbrick, a sculpture that transforms one of the most recognisable icons of collectible culture into a first-of-its-kind artwork. Launching during Frieze Week, the piece will be on public view at Moco London from 17 October 2025.

Typically, collectables are created after an artwork. Here, the process is reversed: a familiar collectible becomes a singular artwork, say Kim and Lionel Logchies, Founders of Moco Museum. The Be@rbrick, born from urban culture, is now created in the most luxurious and enduring way sculpted from onyx, one of the worlds rarest stones. It’s a celebration of how street culture can ascend to timeless art. And of course, in pink.

The Onyx Be@rbrick is an official collaboration between Medicom Toy, Mr. B, and marble atelier Marmor Möller. Developed under Medicom’s original Be@rbrick design, this is the first time the iconic figure has been realised as a monumental stone sculpture. The onyx was hand-selected by Mrs Fox and Mr. B, both patrons of modern and contemporary art. Molded and manufactured from a single block of onyx, the work preserves the exact proportions and articulation of the 1000% Be@rbrick, and every joint is fully movable. Only two of these sculptures exist worldwide, highlighting their rarity and exclusivity.

Moco Museum London is proud to present this artwork, inviting visitors to experience the Onyx Be@rbrick not only as a collector’s item but also as a bold statement on value, material, and the future of design.

About the Artists and Makers

Medicom Toy, founded in Japan in 1996, is known globally for its collectible art toys and innovative collaborations. In 2001, the company introduced the Be@rbrick, a simplified bear-shaped figure that quickly became an icon in design, streetwear, and contemporary culture. Over the past two decades, Be@rbricks have been reimagined by artists, brands, and institutions worldwide, including editions featuring Andy Warhol, KAWS, and Nike, as well as special releases in partnership with fashion houses such as Chanel.

The bold idea to create a marble Be@rbrick was conceived by Mr. B’s close friend and visionary, Mrs. Fox, who owns one of the largest Be@rbrick collections in the world. Both are long-time collectors of modern and contemporary art, with a particular interest in the intersections between design and sculpture. Serving as the creative initiator of the project, Mrs. Fox brought her passion and expertise to the forefront. Together, she and Mr. B personally select the raw stone directly at the quarry, ensuring the highest quality for this unique endeavor.

Fabrication and engineering were executed by Marmor Möller, a specialist marble atelier based in Germany. Their team developed custom fixtures and assembly processes to achieve full mobility within the solid onyx form, balancing aesthetics with engineered precision. The natural veining ensures that no two sculptures are alike, making each piece a truly singular artwork.
