Siro-A @ The Leicester Square Theatre Review

Siro-A is a humorous techno-video-lighting-dance-box show from Japan that makes you scratch your head and wonder: Just how did they think of that? It‘s fun, lots and lots of fun.

The show feels almost like a concert, with clear beginnings and endings to each music-driven section. They range from impressive light shows with some dancing in them to hilarious recounts of famous movies to a horrifying fairytale-esque horror dance. I am using a lot of adjectives because the shows aesthetic is, for a lack of a better word, a bit mad.

The mixture of colours, choreography and music is unlike most things you will see in the theatre right now. The promotional material compares the group to Blue Man Group, a comparison which is a bit like comparing Stockholm to Tokyo. Yes both are cities but that just doesn‘t do it justice. The reason for the comparison is arguably that there is just nothing else that is even close in western culture.

The four performers as energetic, funny and dressed in old school futuristic outfits. In the background we see the musician and videographer working furiously. It is refreshing to see a tech team on stage, even though what they do is mostly look down and press things that we don‘t see.

If you are into Japanese culture, watch this show. If you like fun performaces, watch this show. If you like thinking, what on earth is going on?, watch this show. Most of all if you want to see something that is not happening anywhere else in London theatre, see this show! 4/5
