As soon as the curtain was lifted the audience were loving it. Anyone who has ever acted, directed or stage managed, in any capacity, will recognise the lacklustre, incompetent or diva-like behaviour from some in the theatre that is brilliantly sent up by this show.
The show boasts an excellent ensemble cast all with impeccable timing and physical comedy abilities. Nancy Wallinger and Charlie Russell are brilliant as the duelling divas. The script is a triumph of hilarious missed cues and mispronunciations. I’m particularly impressed by the fantastic set which has to be seen to be believed. I cannot remember the last time I saw such spectacular stunts and effects executed so deftly onstage.
The Play That Goes Wrong is in a league of its own. It takes productions like ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’ (self-aware, farcical, physical comedies) to their full potential. This is a show that would appeal to seasoned theatre audiences and to those looking for a great night out – I can’t remember the last time I laughed as much! 5/5
