Cabaret All Stars: Disco @ Proud Embankment Review

The theatrical form of Cabaret has entertained audiences alike for over 500 years – a French form fusing dining and entertainment – the end result creating a relaxed atmosphere for theatregoers to shut off from the harsh realities of the outside world. A celebration of variety performance, live performance is given the platform to shine, to dazzle – something increasingly important in our new day and age. Hosting an evening of glamorous, daring, flirtatious live art, Cabaret All Stars Disco promises an experience filled with lots of laughs and entertainment.

Spanning just over 3 hours long, the dining/entertainment extravaganza puts the audience at the ease, much loved disco tunes belted during intervals and as we settle, a 2 course meal consisting of a slow Braised Beef Tart to start and and a Chicken Supreme to conclude (desert is also an option if ordered) alongside a selection of delicious cocktails a much needed accompaniment to the show. Mistress of Ceremonies Amy Lou Black seamlessly ties the audacious evening together, her cheeky, confident, demeanour cultivating an evening not at all taking itself too seriously  which is great to see – we need this.

We’re left stunned by performances from fearless partnership Flamewater Circus’ mesmeric flame throwing routine, Britain’s Got Talent’s Aaron and Jasmine who sparkle with their action packed show dancing number, Jessie Katz and their sultry burlesque sequences and Emily Winters with her out of this world hair hanging/aerialist sequence. What Proud is able to exceed at is curating line ups unique to their venues, you’re unlikely to catch similar acts anywhere else and this is exciting to catch. If you’re into niche/unique performances then this is for you.

Food timings could be slicker but this is easy to work on. Does Cabaret All Stars Disco deliver on the overall escapism front? Yes. Whether you’re a disco die hard fan, a cabaret fanatic, a devoted theatre regular or someone looking for an entertaining night out, this show is for you.
