Performer Alexa Davies talks about starring in Martha Watson Allpress’ hit show ‘Lady Dealer’, currently playing at the Bush Theatre
Martha Watson Allpress’ Lady Dealer made its debut last year at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and to critical acclaim. A year on, the hit show returns to the Bush Theatre for a month long run, again to critical acclaim. The show’s lead Charly, a drug dealer dealing with the after affects of heartbreak. Performer Alexa Davies, who reprises the role tells us more about the role, what she’s learned from taking part in the production and what audiences can expect!
Hi Alexa, you’ll be starring in Martha Watson Allpress’ Edinburgh hit show Lady Dealer showing from the 15th May until 15th June at the Bush Theatre. How are you feeling ahead of the show?
So far so good I think?
Well, we all did our own little bit, as listed above, and then came together to create a fully formed show. It’s amazing to work with such a brilliant team of women, who are all so talented.
The biggest thing I’ve learned is the impact different audiences can have on the show. Whether you get a slightly ’tired from a long day’ crowd, or a high energy crying-with-laughter bunch, the audience are essentially the other half of the company. However they respond will slightly alter the pace and rhythm of what I’m doing.
They can expect jokes, music and poetry. They can also expect me looking each of them dead in the eye to chat to them, so if you’re not keen on that, maybe try and sit at the back.
An understanding that things are so rarely black-and-white.
