Broken @ Watford Palace Theatre Review

Away from the vibrant and forever moving nature of the metropolitan, the bright lights of the city and the continual advancements and innovations within technology, it is easy to forget, be unaware or even take for granted the world in which we live and its significance.

Broken by Katja Ogrin (1)

Courtesy of Logela Multimedia, Broken, transports the audience through a variety of landscapes, bringing to life the nuances and intricacies of nature from the formation of rocks and boulders to the depiction of roots underground. Performed by an ensemble of six Motionhouse dancers, Kevin Finnan‘s choreography astounds and entertains as the ensemble effortlessly showcase the company’s trademark quality of integrating fearless stunts and enthralling storytelling. Set against Sophy Smith and Tim Dickinson‘s dramatic score, and Simon Dormon‘s clever set design, unreachable or microscopic environments of the Earth are realised in this compelling production as new scenarios burst through Logela’s projections, from intrepid explorers swirling down cavernous depths, to multiple shadows emerging from a harsh, volcanic landscape.

Bringing the piece closer to home, the production focuses on the devastating impact of a natural disaster within the metropolitan, as the ensemble race against time, scrambling against the chaotic situation in which they tragically find themselves in.  A powerful use of storytelling, showing just how temperamental nature can be.

A visually stunning production boldly placing focus on the microscopic or usually unseen cyclical processes of nature. 4/5.

Broken, performed by Motionhouse Dance Theatre will be on tour around the UK until March 2014, for more information click here…
