Theatrefullstop visits Bestival!

Bestival boasts in culture and diversity to offer a festival for everyone, it’s not just about the music. Its theme this year is futuristic and it does not disappoint with huge iconic Robots dotted around the festival.

Bestival 2016

Main Stage

Huge acts fill the stage, Skepta, JME bring us back to London and hype the stage with their full crew. Kano re-winds time and takes us back with favourites from ‘Home Sweet Home’. Damian Marley transports us to Jamaica with sweet sounds and a chilled band. Major Lazor surprises us crowd surfing on a big inflatable Zorb. Craig David is another hit with plenty of sing along moments which unifies the crowd. Sean Paul & Wiz Khalifa highlight the main stage and get the party started. Spectacular fireworks close Bestival, with processions of wonderful and weird aliens emerging around the huge Robots.

Cirqueserai

Vintage caravans and carousels fill the space, with old bumper cars scattered around. It is on the top of my list of things to see. Incredible acts from Cirque Bijou, with multitalented acrobats, aerialists and clowns. Their Unique day act Circus Café lets you order food items off an a-la-carte menu and it is served to you in a comic and acrobatic style. I order King Prawns, and I’m greeted by a contortionist in a chest stand served on a wooden slate. By night amazing aerialists and tight ropewalkers light up the sky.

Samsung

Samsung have a special preview of their new virtual reality experience called The Hypercube. We enter into a Big square box and have our own pods with our head sets and Ocular set. The vision is clear and crisp and offers a 360 view of a rock band; each band member is in a different corner so there is always something interesting to look at.

Bollywood

A feast of colour and culture explode through this section. Filled with amazing Bollywood and classical Indian dancers. An Indian Circus troupe perform native stories through characateurs and mask work. They are extremely skillful fitting two people through a small round steel hoop. A sword eater surprises the audience and spins on his stomach on the top of a pole shocking us all! This section wouldn’t be complete without a colour fight; multicoloured powder is passed out and enjoyed by all.

Ambient Forest

This is a huge beautiful sanctuary to get away from the madness; you can go for a walk without meeting a soul. A calm pond graces the space with adorable ducks swimming and lily pads dotted around. The enchanted forest is filled with space and ‘lost’ themed installations and meditation areas to embrace.

Food

The best food is served in The Feast Collective where you can find fresh free range buttermilk fried chicken, authentic East Asian curry, specially sourced seafood and fresh vegan wraps. This section is the ultimate festi-food haven.

There are so many more things to see and write about but I just cant fit them all in, you have to be there… Looking forward to Bestival 2017 where everyone is welcome!
