Open Call for Cultural Organisations in England, Norway and Denmark to join International Touring & Environmental Responsibility Programme
Applications are now open for the fourth year of the International Touring and Environmental Responsibility (ITER) programme, a programme initiated and funded by Arts Council England, the Danish Arts Foundation, and Arts Council Norway and designed and delivered by Julie’s Bicycle in collaboration with in futurum.
Travel and touring are essential to the arts, but they come at a cost. As the urgency of the climate crisis increases, so does the need for our sector to understand the impacts of touring and to develop sustainable models for sharing art while supporting a low-carbon, just future. ITER is a programme for both organisations and individuals that fosters relationships between artists and companies based in England, Denmark, and Norway, supporting them to develop new, environmentally responsible, inclusive and equitable approaches to international touring and collaboration.
Aimed at venues, touring companies and individuals from the performing arts sectors including dance, music, and theatre, the programme is structured as two free to attend interactive seminar series at beginner and advanced levels. Both programmes are delivered online, providing an interactive space for learning, knowledge sharing and networking and will be followed by an opportunity to apply for project funding.
“The ITER programme has offered me a network of passionate individuals, collectively concerned about building a world where art can be responsibly and sustainably created. It has offered interesting case studies, tangible solutions and creative ideas for the future. Most of all it has offered hope and inspiration for a better world.” – Rebecca Lee, Walk the Plank (ITER participant).
Previous projects funded via the programme include Eliot Smith Dance and Liv Vester Larsen’s MERGE, CPH Stage and LIFT festival’s exploration on how performing arts professionals can tour, collaborate and co-produce sustainably and Nøtterøy Kulturhus and Danish Dance Theatre’s multi-venue sustainable dance tour.
Applications open on Friday 4th April 2025 and will close on Wednesday 4 June, 2025. Find out more and apply here.
Julie’s Bicycle will hold three 30 minute online drop-in sessions for those interested to apply to ask questions and learn more about the programme on Wednesday 9th April, 10am, Thursday 1st May, 10am, Wednesday 21st May, 10:30am.
