The Made in Sussex Film Festival, a celebration of local cinematic talent, has unveiled an exciting opportunity for filmmakers: a £10,000 prize for Best Director, dedicated to funding their next Sussex-based project.

Hosted at Lewes’s iconic Depot Cinema from 25th to 27th April 2025, the festival shines a spotlight on films rooted in Sussex’s landscapes, heritage, and creativity. The event is designed to honour the region’s storytelling and artistry. 

The £10,000 prize, generously sponsored by Clear Futures, offers a transformative opportunity for the winner. Jen Handorf of Film Sussex highlighted the impact of the “Securing funding is often the greatest challenge for filmmakers, particularly for smaller, independent projects. Thanks to the incredible support of Clear Futures, this groundbreaking grant provides one talented filmmaker with the resources needed to execute their creative vision.

The Soho London Independent Film Festival (SohoLIFF) marks its 5th year in style in January 2025, celebrating five years of innovation in independent film with an electrifying line-up of screenings, events and special guests. The Stage has proudly announced the winners of The Stage Awards, in association with Tysers Live, the industry’s most prestigious event celebrating theatre across the whole of the UK. The ceremony was held at The Royal Opera House’s Linbury Theatre, London on the January 20, 2025.

The eight categories at the 15^th annual awards include Theatre of the Year, Theatre Building of the Year, Producer of the Year, Innovation Award, Community Award, International Award, Unsung Hero and Campaign of the Year – a brand-new award introduced to honour excellence behind the scenes in the fields of theatre marketing and PR. A special Judges’ Award was also presented on the night, while playwright James Graham, who was placed at number one in The Stage 100 list, was also presented with an award.

Kicking off the new year, Ambassador Cruise Line and the PEEL Entertainment Group have opened submissions for their exciting new Ambassador PEEL Playwriting Challenge 2025.

WhatsOnStage today announce that Gina and Mazz Murray will co-host the 25^th Annual WhatsOnStage Awards in association with AudienceView – the only major theatre prize giving decided by the theatregoers themselves – on 9 February 2025 at The London Palladium.

Both have some major theatre credits to their names: Gina Murray‘s stage credits include Chicago, Fame, The Roy Orbison Story (all in the West End) as well as Hairspray on tour, while on screen she has appeared in The Hunt for Raoul Moat, and Sorted.

Meanwhile, Mazz Murray is currently portraying Donna Sheridan in the West End production of Mamma Mia!, with other West End credits including We Will Rock You, Chicago and Fame. Her television credits include EastEnders and The Quest.
