Music Director and Composer John Pfumojena talks about ‘Amina Kadeya EP’ Launch Event with Tangle Theatre

Marking a year since Tangle Theatre’s opening of Ben Jonson’s Jacobean classic Volpone, the Amina Kadeya EP offers a musical extension of the show’s Zimbabwean Jazz fused score. Sadly cut short by the Covid pandemic, the show’s Musical Director and Composer John Pfumojena, alongside friend and long-time collaborator sax player Tawanda Mapanda have help to realise Volpone’s soundtrack for a digital stage. Ahead of the EP launch event, John tells us more about creating work during lockdown, a featured conversation presented by Tangle Theatre’s Chair of the Board Kofi Ohene-Djan between himself and Artistic Director Anna Coombs about the collaborative process and what to expect from the event.

With theatre becoming increasingly more accessible to view online, this has opened up the possibility for cross cultural collaborations and audiences to watch performances they perhaps wouldn’t have been aware of before. Renowned for staging works showcasing the diversity of African culture, Artistic Director of Utopia Theatre Mojisola Elufowoju has introduced a season of rehearsed readings, each one off events taking place monthly, introducing to viewers a range of important African works. Ahead of the season’s second show ‘And the Girls in their Sunday Dresses’ by Zakes Mda, Mojisola tells us more about what inspired her to curate the shows chosen for the readings, how she’s approached creating work for the digital stage and what to expect from the season.

OffWestEnd Award Winners 2021!

In this ‘special circumstances’ year, the Offies 2021 Awards Ceremony celebrated the creativity and resilience of our artists in fringe, alternative and independent theatre in a time of crisis who have found new ways to produce fresh and inventive work for thousands of stay-at-home audiences. Streamed free on the site of free online theatre Scenesaver, on Sunday 21 February 2021, and presented by OffWestEnd Director Geoffrey Brown, the event included many specially recorded messages of love and support from friends from the industry and beyond, including Brian Blessed, Sharon D Clarke, Dame Judi Dench, Sonia Friedman, Stephen Fry, Sadiq Khan and Michelle Terry.

Fine Artist and Singer-Songwriter Chloe Wing talks about new art installation taking part in Chinese Arts Now’s 2021 Digital Exhibition

Returning with the third edition of their festival, Chinese Arts Now will stage ten weeks of new exhibitions, performances, screenings, comedy and scratch nights showcasing British East and South East Asian Artists online. Seeking inspiration from the neo-Gothic architecture of Two Temple Place, fine artist and singer-songwriter Chloe Wing presents an art installation fusing fashion and design with a musical element – a specially crafted paper gown and headpiece drawing on themes of gender, social conventions and mental health. Ahead of the digital showcase, Chloe tells us more about her inspirations for the piece, the installation’s creative process and what audiences can expect from the installation.
