Call out for Reviewers: London Pub Theatres Magazine are looking for writers to join their team!

Founded by former playwright and Artistic Director of Changing Spaces Theatre Heather Jeffrey, London Pub Theatres Magazine has been a champion of our unique pub theatre scene. Having staged works with her theatre company at the Drayton Arms Theatre (Kensington), Old Red Lion Theatre (Islington), VAULT Festival (Waterloo), St Paul’s Church (Covent Garden), Cockpit Theatre (Marylebone) and Midlands Arts Centre (Birmingham), LPTM is a continuation of the celebration of new work created on our London fringe theatre stages. Having added to the revered publication with the introduction of the London Pub Theatre Awards in 2018, the LPTM team now look to expand their pool of reviewers and are inviting you to be a part of the next phase of their journey!

Graphic novel wins at the 2022 Society of Authors’ Awards!

New Yorker cartoonist Will McPhail has won the Betty Trask Prize at the 2022 Society of Authors’ Awards for IN: The Graphic Novel – the first time a graphic novel has been named a winner of the prize. The novel is an account of a young illustrator’s struggle to find connection, praised by judges as a ‘devastating vision of contemporary loneliness’.

Shortlist announced for the Society for Theatre Research Theatre Book Prize 2022

The Society for Theatre Research is delighted to reveal the shortlist for the Theatre Book Prize 2022. Judged by director Jatinder Verma, National Theatre archivist Erin Lee and theatre critic Paul Vale on a panel chaired by STR Committee Member Howard Loxton, the shortlist includes six titles ranging from the history of Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre to the candid account of the early career of actress Eileen Atkins.

Applications open to find Most Welcoming Theatre ahead of 2022 UK Theatre Awards

The search is on for the UK’s Most Welcoming Theatre, with venues around the country invited to compete for this accolade ahead of this year’s UK Theatre Awards. Applications, which are now open to all UK Theatre member venues until 1 July, will be judged on how theatres can demonstrate they are welcoming in three distinct areas; ‘place’, ‘people’ and ‘programme’ – looking at the building itself, the relationship with audiences and everyone interacting with the venue, and the creative work offered.

DENZEL WESTLEY-SANDERSON, WINNER OF THE RTST SIR PETER HALL DIRECTOR AWARD 2021, TO DIRECT THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST

It was announced yesterday at a special Royal Theatrical Support Trust (RTST) ceremony that the winner of the RTST Sir Peter Hall Director Award 2021, Denzel Westley-Sanderson, will direct a new production of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest – in a co-production between English Touring Theatre (ETT), Leeds Playhouse and Rose Theatre.
