Bombarded with representations of love throughout the ages, notions of what love looks like are currently being dismantled. Relationship gurus perhaps the closest we’ll get currently to addressing what it takes to make a relationship last. Back with their second musical which I’m sure will be a hit, Lucy Moss and Toby Marlow of Six the Musical fame pen Why Am I So Single?, a self deprecating reality check of the dating scene in the early 21st century.
The Stage Debut Awards are today announcing a stellar line-up of guest presenters and performances from the West End’s most popular musicals for their annual ceremony, in association with ATG Entertainment. As the UK’s only awards dedicated to celebrating breakthrough theatre talent, this prestigious event shines a spotlight on the industry’s rising stars from performers, directors, writers, composers and lyricists to set, costume, lighting, sound and video design.
Some of the biggest names in theatre will gather on Sunday, September 29, at 8Northumberland Avenue, London to honour this year’s standout talent. After her own triumphant debut as host last year, legendary drag artist, performer and singer Divina De Campo returns to once again lead the ceremony. The evening will recognise 49 nominees across eight categories — all who made remarkable professional debuts over the past year.
‘Her Story’ is becoming prominent in our current era – a vital step towards fleshing out a more nuanced perspective of history from the many women that have shaped and continue to shape our world. This is an exciting time historically for expanding the history books – Tudor England a significant part of British history characterised by King Henry VIII’s reign (1509-1547) and the formation of the Church of England. As well as the reign of his daughter, Queen Elizabeth I over a decade after his passing (1558-1603). Renowned for the fact that he married six times, which was unconventional for the time, this part of history is framed from the perspective of a victorious King Henry, however – seldom do we hear about the lives of those around him. Cue Toby Marlow’s and Lucy Moss’ much loved musical Six, placing the voices of his six wives at the fore – something that would have tapped into the zeitgeist in 2018, peaking interest – and with that, starting a chain reaction of looking at more women-led stories in this way!
