Lovesong @ Digital Theatre Review

Trying to pinpoint the formula for the perfect relationship is about as simple as finding a needle in a haystack. Like fingerprints, no two relationships are the same. From the first moment you set eyes on ‘the love of your life’, move in with your prospective partner, to the much lauded and celebrated wedding day, priorities and emotions change. With the prospect of marriage serving as the ultimate declaration of love, does this constitute the happy ever after we’ve all been lead to believe? Will everything be plain sailing from there on in?

Circus Performer Heather Holliday Speaks to Theatrefullstop about starring in the international hit, Limbo!

With the return of the quirky and original circus show that had crowds and celebs flocking from all over in its first season last year, Limbo once again aims to amaze, bewilder and astound. Ahead of press night, I was able to speak with Heather Holliday, who not only held the title of being the youngest sword swallower in the world as a teen, but is also a fire eating extraordinaire! Heather speaks to Theatrefullstop about why she’s glad to be back in the UK, her inspirations, and why it’s important to have a good attitude in the circus industry!

Limbo returns to the Wonderground Festival this summer after a successful run last year. How does it feel to be back?

I’m really excited because (we’re) here for such a long season and (of) all of the places we go, London has the most entertainment and it’s the most interesting to be in. Also, (it’s) nice to be back because we’d just created the show last year and it was fairly new. We were still getting to know each other, the performers were getting to know each other’s skills so after a full year we’ve been able to just be a lot more creative with each other and get to know each other and I think that’s really going to show on stage with the new stuff we’re doing.

In The Heights @ Southwark Playhouse Review

Whilst focusing on the intricacies of your own daily routine, it can become very easy to forget about the community around us. A fast paced, nonstop cycle of commuting from A to B, battling through the busy commuting crowds and working a load of thankless work shifts can take their toll! However, wouldn’t it be great to gain a better perspective of your fellow commuter, to perhaps build on that sense of community…

Limbo @ The Wonderground Festival Review

Ever wondered what it would be like to run away with the circus? To have the predictable 9-5 turned on it’s head and replaced with daring acrobatic spectacles and awe inspiring magic tricks? Well look no further, as the Wonderground Festival presents the ever shifting, ever evolving world of Limbo…

Founders of Jackdaw Theatre Company, Amy Clamp and Bethan Dear talk to Theatrefullstop about their new production, TEN WOMEN!

B&W Amy

Amy Clamp

From the very moment you switch on your Computer, Television, Tablet or smartphone, you’re bombarded with so called images of perfection, and that’s even before you’ve left the house! Then there’s the numerous amount of inescapable ad campaign in magazines, billboards and bus tops tempting you to buy the latest luxurious shampoo or miraculous mascara. But what, in 2014 does it mean to be a woman? To be a feminist? With the movement of feminism being a hot topic at present, Jackdaw Theatre explores this in their latest production of TEN WOMEN. I was able to talk to Artistic Director Bethan Dear and Creative Producer Amy Clamp ahead of their production about the Theatre Companies beginnings, travelling to Uganda and and why their proud to call TEN WOMEN a feminist play!

You’ve both formed Jackdaw Theatre whilst studying at Middlesex University. What inspired the creation of the company?

Amy: It was initiated by the fact that Bethan quite soon after University went and did a Residency Programme at the Finborough Theatre. Afterwards, she was offered a spot for a Sunday (and) Monday show and invited me to come on board as Production Manager, so that was the first project we worked on together and from that point realised that we worked really well together.

Shame @ Roundhouse review

I’m sure if the much sought after Time Machine were invented, we’d all be rushing to our nearest department stores to make a purchase. We all have those certain moments we wish we could re-write and tweak, that we always seem to re-play obsessively on a daily, weekly or monthly basis that annoyingly in some circumstances manifest to years of regret down the line. But what is it you wish you could perfect and alter? What are you ashamed of?

Shame, by John Berkavitch, Heads Up Festival, Hull.

Havana Rakatan @ Peacock Theatre Review

Strictly Come Dancing provides one of the only opportunities in the UK to witness the dance forms of Ballroom and Latin. Bringing the life and soul of the Rumba to the Tango into the nation’s living rooms every Saturday Night, it’s always sad when the show draws to a close. Cue Havana Rakatan, a bold, vivacious and celebratory production picking up from where Strictly left off with a dose of Cuban fearlessness and passion!

Winner of the First Adrian Pagan Playwright Award, Thomas Pickles speaks to Theatrefullstop about his play Dead Party Animals!

pickles-thomas

Everybody has a story to tell, whether you’re a Costume Designer or a Production Assistant. To acknowledge this, the Adrian Pagan Playwright Award was launched last year in memory of the late Stage Manager who also enjoyed success a Playwright. Alongside working as an actor, having performed for the RSC and starring in the BBCs Casualty, Thomas Pickles can now add the credible title of award winning Playwright to his CV! A play that was 11 years in the making, Thomas talks ahead of opening night about his inspirations, his love of writing and why being a Magpie could be a good thing!

Your production of Dead Party Animals is the first recipient of the Adrian Pagan Playwright Award, how does that feel?

It feels great! It’s really good! The prospect of getting my first play produced is overwhelming, but brilliant as well! I’m chuffed to bits! I had this play, so I thought, what can I do with it? I saw the competition online and I was shortlisted! It’s been fab!

The Hive @ Jacksons Lane Review

You can’t seem to leave the house without somebody asking for your email address, or whether you’re on Facebook or not. As we’ve witnessed in the past decade, technological advances have never been so progressive. The decade that has given us the iPhone, Social Media and the notorious Selfie shows no signs of slowing down as we attempt to catch up with the times and keep up with the Joneses…
