Last Night @ The Roundhouse (Last Word Festival 2017) Review

With the nightclub scene diminishing before our very eyes, how do we as a community politically respond to that? Clubs can be church for people, a place of escape, and a chance to be someone different for the night. According to the Mayor’s office, over the past five years the number of nightclubs across all of London’s 33 local authorities has decreased by fifty percent. Last Night tells the story of the people who experience clubbing as their ritual. Using original music, poetry and audio recordings, this piece tells the story from all perspectives, giving a well-rounded account on what a London night out is.

Horror @ The Peacock Theatre (Sadler’s Wells) Review

A severed hand crosses the stage, a contorted figure crawls down the stairs like a crab, and a man is gutted right in front of us. Going into this I feel incredibly excited, and perhaps slightly uneasy to see this horror piece, but unfortunately Jakop Ahlbom’s homage to the genre leaves a sour taste, as it does anything but terrify.

Mawaan Rizwaan: Twerk in Progress @ Southbank Centre (Alchemy Festival 2017) Review

It’s not easy feat attracting millions of views on your YouTube channel, however Mawaan Rizwan has managed to achieve this with his online TV channel. The actor/comedian has enjoyed over 11 million views, with this stat only increasing. What’s clear, whilst watching his channel is his sense of fun and quirkiness, qualities that are very prevalent within his latest show, Twerk in Progress.

Wife @ The ADC Theatre (The Corpus Playroom) Review

Wife is a 70 minute unyielding one woman show, which explores the predetermined figure of what a wife is supposed to be and celebrates the women who hold the knowledge to overcome it. In this performance Ella Duffy combines fable and fact to make a bold statement of wives transcending the ages.
