Soho Green Rooms announces the next wave of speakers, themes and product demonstrations for its newly launched live entertainment and theatre festival.  From 16 – 18 July 2024 at the Boulevard Theatre in London, Soho Green Rooms will explore the future of live entertainment through keynotes, panel discussions, product demonstrations, audience Q&A and networking. The all-new Soho Green Rooms festival will bring together key players and creatives in the theatre and live event industries to debate trends and concerns impacting the theatre and live entertainment world. Keith Khan appointed Creative Director of Hackney Empire

Chair Sir William Atkinson and the Board of Hackney Empire are thrilled to announce the appointment of Keith Khan to the position of Creative Director, following the departure of Yamin Choudury in September this year.

Multi-disciplinary artist Keith Khan, who was born in London of Trinidadian Indian heritage, most recently directed and designed the acclaimed The Accountants at Factory International and has become renowned for his method of working with design and spectacle, underpinned by personal narrative and community engagement.

The late Benjamin Zephaniah among 31 winners at this year’s Society of Authors Awards

Benjamin Zephaniah is among the winners for this year’s Society of Authors (SoA) Awards, together with illustrator Nila Aye, for their children’s book People Need People (Orchard Books, Hachette Children’s Group). Described by judge Cerrie Burnell as ‘moving, humorous and lovely all at once’, the picture book in verse wins the Queen’s Knickers Award for an outstanding children’s original illustrated book for ages 0-7. Our judges were impressed by its ‘powerful message’ about people power and the importance of connecting with others.

Their awards will be celebrated at tonight’s SoA Awards ceremony at Southwark Cathedral, as two of 31 winners sharing a prize fund of over £140,000. The awards are for authors at all stages of their careers, for books of poetry, fiction and non-fiction, across a variety of genres.

The UK Pantomime Association announces the winners of The Pantomime Awards 2024 in association with Stagecoach

The UK Pantomime Association (UKPA) has announced the winners of The Pantomime Awards 2024 in association with Stagecoach at a ceremony that took place on 18 June at G Live in Guildford, which was presented by Angellica Bell, Myra DuBois and Ore Oduba, with Rob Madge presenting the coveted Best Pantomime Awards. 
Twins FX received the Outstanding Achievement Award for their exceptional contribution to the pantomime industry. Their special effects have revolutionised pantomime through breathtaking transformation sequences and adding awe-inspiring spectacle from flying double-decker buses to enormous animatronic crocodiles and jaw-dropping illusions. Their creativity knows no bounds and helps create the true magic of pantomime.

Ray Fearon named as President of Rose Bruford College

Acclaimed actor from stage and screen Ray Fearon has today been named as the incoming President of Rose Bruford College. Rose Bruford College is a leading London specialist higher education institution providing undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in entertainment arts and production.

An alumnus of Rose Bruford College, Ray Fearon has received critical acclaim for many of his performances on stage with the Royal Shakespeare Company. He was awarded the Carlton Hobbs Radio Award and the George Benson Award for his portrayal of Othello at the National Theatre while still a student at Rose Bruford College.

Ray’s diverse on-screen acting credits include films Barbie, Beauty and the Beast, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and Hamlet, and his wide-ranging TV roles include His Dark Materials, Fleabag, Da Vinci’s Demons and Coronation Street.  He is also an Associate Artist at the Royal Shakespeare Company.

The position of President is an ambassadorial and ceremonial role to promote the College regionally, nationally and globally and to help further the mission and vision of the College.

Black Stone Cherry announce UK arena tour for November 2024

Black Stone Cherry are excited to announce a return to the UK in support of their eighth studio album, Screamin’ At The Sky.  The Kentucky four piece will play five arenas around the country, kicking off at Cardiff’s Utilita Arena on 17th November and wrapping up at London’s renowned OVO Arena Wembley on November 23rd.

Tickets go on general sale from 10am Wednesday 19th June over at the Live Nation website, with O2 and artist pre-sales available from 10am Monday 17th June.

Now, I See @ Theatre Royal Stratford East Review

Black millennials’ stories are having a moment on stage, and I love it so much! Between Williams’ Red Pitch, Cameron’s For Coloured Boys, and now Lanre Malaolu‘s Now I See! And it’s not even October! I tried my best to view Now I See on its own merits, as comparison can steal joy. Fortunately, it stands just fine all by itself. I saw it a few days before it ended its run at Stratford East Theatre Royal, and I hope it will be back soon.

The SAG-AFTRA Foundation (@sagaftra) is releasing The SAG-AFTRA Foundation (@sagaftra) is releasing its Legacy Collection, a series of never-before-seen, long-form interviews recorded between 1979 and 2012 with legendary performing artists and industry luminaries. The collection was captured on a variety of physical media formats and digitized during the pandemic. It contains unique interviews with influential actors and pioneering performers, including David Carradine, Cyd Charisse, Henry Fonda, Kathleen Freeman, Tippi Hedren, Dennis Hopper, Jane Russell, and dozens more. @sadlers_wells and @breakinconvention present the Hip Hop Games on Stratford Waterfront in @queenelizabetholympicpark this summer ahead of Breaking’s inaugural appearance at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games (@olympics) and the opening of Sadler’s Wells East. On Saturday 3 August from 12-7pm, eight east London dancers will compete across two teams in a hip hop dance improvisation game with a series of different creative challenges in a free event for all the family.

The Hip Hop Games is a concept born in France in 2011 from dancer, choreographer and artistic director Romuald Brizolier and is the first concept that offers a hip hop dance improvisation game staged through various creative challenges. The Hip Hop Games has since toured internationally, bringing together dancers from across the world and gaining widespread recognition.  

To continue marking Breaking’s debut in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Sadler’s Wells and Breakin’ Convention are inviting visitors to watch the Breaking Olympic finals at free live watching parties on Friday 9 & Saturday 10 August. To celebrate our birthday this year on Sunday 14th To celebrate our birthday this year on Sunday 14th July, we’ll be returning with another Mindfulness workshop led by practitioner @meganmattravers to take place on Instagram Live at 1pm, this will be a 30 minute workshop focused on keeping us in the present moment. This will then be followed by a 45 minute Pilates workshop at 3:15, also on Instagram Live led by @sib_meienberg. The session is suitable for beginners, and we ask if possible, to make sure you have a yoga/exercise mat with you, and a bottle of water.
