Today, 1 August 2023, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society is pleased to announce a new strategic partnership with Nouveau Riche Productions. The partnership aims to understand how to address barriers to participation for Black and/or Global Majority artists at the Fringe.

The partnership will initially last six months and will focus on the shared ambitions of Nouveau Riche and the Fringe Society in providing support, resources and signposting for under-represented artists who face barriers to participation, and/or experience unsafe working environments, when taking part in the Fringe – specifically artists who identify as Black and/or Global Majority.

On Tuesday 25^th April 2023, the City of Edinburgh Council’s Finance and Resource Committee will consider Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society’s request for approval to progress to formal discussions for a long-term lease of the South Bridge Resource Centre; as the preferred location for a new Fringe Community Hub.

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society is delighted to launch the ‘Keep it Fringe’ fund, a new initiative to support Fringe artists, which is being led by Fringe Society President Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

This fund, supported by the Fleabag for Charity campaign, and funds donated to the Fringe Society through individual donors and our partnership with Edinburgh Gin, will distribute fifty bursaries of £2,000 which will be awarded to individual artists or companies bringing work to the Fringe in 2023.

A former Fringe participant and experienced arts manager, has today been announced as the new Head of Artist Services at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society.  Chris Snow took up post at the start of September 2022, having most recently held the role of Head of Support Services at the National Theatre in London.

With extensive experience in supporting and leading cultural teams, Chris brings a wealth of knowledge to the senior post.  In his early twenties Chris brought several small-scale shows to Edinburgh under his own theatre company, and understands the challenges and opportunities facing artists as they perform at the festival for the first time.  Having worked for several years managing large buildings for major global businesses, he then led National Theatre’s operational teams through the pandemic; and as such also has a strong grounding on how to support more established performers and venues.

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society is undertaking its biggest feedback drive in years following the conclusion of the 2022 festival.  With the return of artists and audiences on a scale not seen since before the pandemic, there was heightened interest across a range of areas last August. As the festival joins other global cultural events on the road to recovery, the Society team are seeking input from a wide range of Fringe constituents as it looks to address the key challenges and opportunities ahead.
