Lorna Brown Interview | Royal Shakespeare Company’s Hamlet | Hackney Empire

One of Shakespeare’s most popular and iconic tragedies during his time and the modern day, Hamlet is considered to be the ultimate tale of revenge. Simon Godwin’s adaptation offers a unique take on the narrative, his production drawing on various African influences ranging from the West to South Africa. Taking on the role of Gertrude, Queen of Denmark; Lorna Brown speaks to Theatre Full Stop about how she’s approached taking on the complex role as well as tackling Shakespeare’s rich language.

Rules For Living @ The Cambridge Arts Theatre Review

We have all experienced at least one disastrous Christmas, where the turkey is inedible or the cranberry sauce is missing, but Sam Holcroft’s version of a family Christmas is altogether torn apart. Awaiting the return of male patriarch Francis, Edith cleans her way through despair, whilst her two sons Adam and Matthew set the table for the expectation of a perfect family lunch. However, war breaks out over the dining table, and an indulgent farce is embarked upon.

A crisp and stylish stage forms the backdrop of Simon Godwin’s production of Twelfth Night. The modernity though a little unexpected is not surprising, considering the National Theatre’s recent stage designs (Hedda Gabler, Us/Them), minimalist yet effective for the most part.

Today, Rufus Norris, Artistic Director of the National Theatre, has announced what is coming up in the new season: Four world premieres, two European premieres and co-productions with Headlong, Fuel, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Out of Joint, and Improbable, featuring new work by Inua Ellams, Yaёl Farber, DC Moore, Lindsey Ferrentino and Nina Raine.
