The Jamie Lloyd Company today announces the full cast for William Shakespeare’s The Tempest at Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Directed by Jamie Lloyd, The Tempest opens on Thursday 19 December, with previews from 7 December 2024, running until 1 February 2025.

Sigourney Weaver (Prospero) is joined by Jude Akuwudike (Alonso), Jason Barnett (Stephano),Selina Cadell (Gonzalo), Mathew Horne (Trinculo), Mara Huf (Miranda), Forbes Masson(Caliban), Mason Alexander Park (Ariel), James Phoon (Ferdinand), Oliver Ryan (Sebastian) and Tim Steed (Antonio).

The Tempest is the first production in The Jamie Lloyd Company’s season of Shakespeare at Theatre Royal Drury Lane; it is followed by Much Ado About Nothing starring Tom Hiddleston(Benedick) and Hayley Atwell (Beatrice). Also directed by Jamie Lloyd, Much Ado About Nothing opens on Wednesday 19 February, with previews from 10 February, and runs until 5 April 2025. The Jamie Lloyd Company today announces a season of Shakespeare at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane with The Tempest starring BAFTA winner Sigourney Weaver, who is being awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 81^st Venice International Film Festival, making her West End debut as Prospero; and Much Ado About Nothing starring Tom Hiddleston (Benedick) and Hayley Atwell (Beatrice), both directed by Jamie Lloyd.

The two productions run at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, owned and operated by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s LW Theatres, marking the first Shakespeare plays to be presented at the venue since Peter Brook’s production of The Tempest starring John Gielgud in 1957. The Tempest opens on Thursday 19 December, with previews from 7 December 2024, running until 1 February 2025, and Much Ado About Nothing opens Wednesday 19 February, with previews from 10 February, running until 5 April 2025. The winners of The Stage Awards, in association with Tysers Live, have been announced at the annual awards ceremony at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, London. The prestigious event took place in front of an audience from every corner of the industry, with guests including West End producers, artistic directors, stage stars and many of the figures who featured in The Stage 100 list.

Now entering its 14th year, The Stage Awards were launched in 2010 to highlight the achievements in theatre across the UK. This year it turned its attention to 30 nominees across nine categories, all of whom exemplified the very best of the theatre community. For the first time this year, there was also the surprise addition of a Judges’ Award, presented to theatre company Chickenshed, in celebration of 50 years of excellence.

At the age of 7, whilst his father was serving at the front towards the end of WWII, a young Rudolph Nureyev would, alongside his mother and 3 siblings watch ballet performance Songs of the Cranes at the Ufa Opera House, Russia – and it is was this performance that would align Nureyev onto a path to becoming one of the ballet world’s greats. He very early on showcasing his need to rebel a very set in stone structure and world, and imprint a language all of his own, developing his own emotive style that would go on to be celebrated and replicated. A celebration of his contribution to the ballet world, Nureyev Legend & Legacy passes on the baton also, celebrating the talent of tomorrow.

Seeking inspiration from Hans Christian Andersen’s 1844 classic fairytale The Snow Queen, Disney’s 2013 smash hit Frozen adapted by Jennifer Lee re-imagines the magical story of the eponymous figure in the form of Elsa, a Princess-turned Queen of fictional kingdom Arendelle. Adapted into a stage musical by popular demand, the production sparkles, reminding us all of the power of imagination.

A staple of the West End theatrical scene, Theatre Royal Drury Lane boasts 358 years of dramatic history. Having been built initially during the English Restoration (1660-1685) under the orders of English dramatist Thomas Killigrew and officially opening in 1663 during the reign of King Charles II, the venue is the capital’s oldest theatre building to still be in use. With significant events such at The Great Fire of London changing the face of London’s architectural landscape. Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s most recent renovation of the premises, starting in 2019, marks the venue’s fourth rebuild by architects Haworth Tompkins. Now offering tours of the Georgian (1812), inspired Grade I listed building, Theatre Royal Drury Lane welcomes all to share in their journey so far.

The hit musical 42nd Street is back in town returning to the West End’s biggest stage – the Theatre Royal Drury Lane where the original West End production opened on August 8, 1984 and incidentally launched the career of Catherine Zeta-Jones. A chorus girl when the show opened, Zeta-Jones took over the role of Peggy Sawyer when both the actor portraying the lead and her understudy became ill during the run – there is life imitating a Broadway show.
