Transports @ The Pleasance Theatre Review

Moving from a place that you have grown up in for years can be one of the most difficult experiences you’ll have to face. It’s one thing moving house, city or country due to seeking  a change from the environment around you, however it’s another thing if the social and political climate you once deemed as being safe has now given you no choice but to flee. Welcome to Pipeline Theatre‘s Transports, a timely piece shedding a subtle light on the impact of immigration on those who have been forced to leave their previous lives behind.

Artistic Director of tiata fahodzi, Natalie Ibu speaks to Theatrefullstop about this year’s Tiata Delights Festival!

imageIn 1997, Femi Elufowoju Jr. pioneered the first theatre company in the UK to specialise in producing works focusing on voices hailing from the African diaspora and heritage. Challenging preconceived ideas perpetuated by mainstream media, tiata fahodzi, meaning ‘theatre of the emancipated’ offers a platform for the playwriting stars of tomorrow to unveil a range of perspectives on what it means to be African in the UK. 18 years on and it’s current Artistic Director, Natalie Ibu celebrates almost a year with the forward thinking theatre company. As Natalie prepares for this year’s tiata delights festival, Theatrefullstop are lucky enough to speak with her about what the festival has to offer, why she was drawn to becoming tiata fahodzi’s Artistic Director and offers advice to aspiring theatre makers.

Hi Natalie! tiata fahodzi will be hosting the tiata delights festival on Saturday 7th November. How are you feeling ahead of the event?

Master of the Macabre @ The Vaults Review

Master of the Macabre bills itself as the most horrifying magic show in London. This is possibly true, though the play is competing within a relatively select niche… Set in the eminently atmospheric Vaults in Waterloo, this one-man show depicts an ominous story of sibling rivalry, punctuating the tale with frequent, suitably sinister, sleights of hand.

Who Cares @ The Royal Court Theatre Review

Here’s a question for you, what organisation is the 5th largest in the world? Has four systems opening in the UK in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales? Was founded in 1948 by the then Labour Party? And last but not least promises free health care to all UK residents? If you haven’t guessed yet… It’s the one and only NHS!

Shooting with Light @ The New Diorama Theatre Review

It is strange to think that only recently photographs were a relatively expensive thing. Photographers had much more of a mystique attached to them and war photographers were stars. The original war photographers, Gerda Taro and Robert Capo are the subject of this new show by Idle Motion.

The Weatherman @ The Mimetic Festival Review

Kiki Lovechild is an amazing clown. That might be a strange compliment, but I dare you to watch his hour long exploration of the after life and not feel better about being alive. In fact, if the afterlife is as much fun as Kiki‘s show, I am giving up any fear of death here and now.

Not I/Footfalls/Rockaby @ The Purcell Room (Southbank Centre) Review

The lady in front of me in the queue for Beckett’s trilogy, Not I, Footfalls and Rockaby, told me how “brave” I was to “tackle a Beckett”, which took me by surprise. In the dark about why this should be, I prepared to be enlightened. The darkness soon becomes literal and total.

Footfalls, Not I
