MANWATCHING @ Roundabout Summer Hall (Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2017) Review

Being a woman is not always easy and with the inability to talk about many topics, masturbation is a secretive revelation within the world of women. What feels like adult story time, settling down to a tale read by virginal monologue reader and performer Stuart Goldsmith, MANWATCHING claims a power and with great power comes great responsibility, discussing the female orgasm and many fantasies in its wake.

Jack Rooke: Happy Hour @ The Underbelly Cowgate (Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2017) Review

Indicative writing with an honest pledge, Jack Rooke yet again pulls at the heart strings reflecting on the brutal truth of grief. Following acclaimed solo show, Good Grief, Rooke returns to the Fringe, this time exploring the complex nature of suicide. A mantle piece to the framed photographs of Rooke’s fallen companions, this show is an honourable letter to the Happy Hour where friendships were born.

A Hunger Artist (Kafka Adaptation) @ Zoo Venues, (Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2017) Review

Authentic in craft and narrative, A Hunger Artist produces a rich circus aesthetic which transports you to the ‘Big Top’. FEAR @ Zoo Venues (124) (Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2017) Review

Anxiety is always just around the corner in Gareth Clark’s curious solo piece FEAR. Written and performed by Clark, this piece endeavours to engage us in a cultural debate on where the western world is heading and whether we’ve actually been there before.

Trashed @ Underbelly Cowgate (Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2017) Review

Sascha Moore’s Trashed is a strong call for change in the way we treat male mental health and discusses how love and loss mean different things between the classes. Goody (David William Bryan) has been working the bins for the best part of 19 years, with his life hanging on a cliff edge we see the complex emotional destruction one man goes through in order to clench on to any glimmer of happiness.

NewsRevue @ The Pleasance Courtyard (Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2017) Review

Canal Cafe Theatre hit all the right notes in their all singing all dancing comedy sketch show Newsrevue. Playing to a packed audience, the group (Abigail Carter-Simpson, Elissa Churchill, Howard Grater and Sam Sheldon) have created an impressive arsenal of notable political figures that are torn to pieces with their snipping gags.

  • Daniel Ward has been announced as the winner of the 51st George Devine Award (@royalcourttheatre) for his debut play The Canary and the Crow, picking up a prize of £15,000. Daniel comments - “To sum up what it means to win this award is so, so difficult. I am honoured, delighted, humbled and feel incredibly unworthy to have my name sit alongside the prestigious list of previous George Devine winners. I am thankful to everyone that has contributed to the creation of this piece, too numerous to mention, so please excuse me for not going into an expansive list. Please
