Physical Theatre fused with a powerful narrative leaves you with a theatrical experience not to be forgotten. Theatre Temoin’s Artistic Director Ailin Conant is renowned for her social engagement in terms of the projects she works on, working with voices that are often marginalised or forgotten about and it’s clear that this is an element that defines the company’s vision. For some, an added layer of humiliation sadly taints the process of moving on by having their intimate moments plastered on various revenge porn sites. The fast paced nature of social media and online forums make it impossible to escape from, and this is becoming a sad reality. Award winning writer and performer Charlotte Josephine draws on this topic to create the very timely BLUSH, which will take residency at the Underbelly, Cowgate next month in Edinburgh. Since the 1980s, Graeae have trail blazed the performance arts landscape by shattering perceptions of disability and making the arts accessible to all. 36 years down the line, and they show no signs of slowing down, bringing their brand of fun, collaboration and daring to their latest and popular production, Reasons to be Cheerful, a feel good musical tying the songs of the legendary artist Ian Dury and the Blockheads to create an unforgettable experience. Ahead of Graeae’s summer tour, starting off at Latitude, Theatrefullstop were lucky enough to speak to lead vocalist, John Kelly about what being apart of Graeae means to him, what drew him to take part in the production 6 years ago, and  what it felt like taking part in the 2012 Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony.

The modern day clown, Wakenshaw is not at all afraid of challenging the theatrical norm, presenting a range of carefully crafted skits that transport you into his weird and wonderful world of colourful characters. With his works, Squidboy, Kraken and currently Nautilus all receiving rave reviews, Wakenshaw is a force to be reckoned with. Ahead of this year’s Mayfest, based in Bristol, Theatrefullstop were able to speak to Wakenshaw about working with the great Philippe Gaulier, his inspirations for his latest piece Nautilus, and he offers advice to aspiring clowning artists. We celebrate theatre, and support a range of venues, whether it be fringe theatre or larger scale theatres. The Theatre’s Trust is a leading advisory body for the sustainability of theatre in the UK, priding itself on the protection and preservation of UK theatres. The trust are also responsible for publishing the Theatre Buildings at Risk Register, informing the public of buildings that are deemed as being under threat from closure. Theatrefullstop were able to speak to the Theatre’s Trust to find out more about the trust.

A partnership that proves vital to the end result, Maillet and Bermond go beyond being performers of their pieces, designing every element, from the narrative, to the lighting, to the soundtrack embedded within each show. Ahead of their performance of Dark Circus at this year’s London International Festival, Theatrefullstop were able to speak Maillet and Bermond about performing at this year’s festival, how they both approach creating their work and the importance of LIMF for the promotion of physical and visual theatre.

Puppet Designer and Director of The Wrong Crowd Rachael Canning speaks to Theatrefullstop about new show ‘Kite’, to be performed at London International Festival 2016!

KiteThe genre of visual theatre may seem quite vague and confusing. The term refers to a form of theatre that uses techniques other than speech to communicate a story. This can be anything from mime, to physical theatre, art installations to puppetry. The Wrong Crowd proudly bear the torch for visual theatre, integrating visually stunning puppets with an inventive narrative. Ahead of The Wrong Crowd’s London International Mime Festival debut of their show, Kite, Theatrefullstop were able to speak to the theatre company’s co-director and puppet designer and director, Rachael Canning about the festival’s importance in the theatre world, Kite‘s central themes and other artists she is looking forward to watching at this year’s festival.

The SAG-AFTRA Foundation (@sagaftra) is releasing The SAG-AFTRA Foundation (@sagaftra) is releasing its Legacy Collection, a series of never-before-seen, long-form interviews recorded between 1979 and 2012 with legendary performing artists and industry luminaries. The collection was captured on a variety of physical media formats and digitized during the pandemic. It contains unique interviews with influential actors and pioneering performers, including David Carradine, Cyd Charisse, Henry Fonda, Kathleen Freeman, Tippi Hedren, Dennis Hopper, Jane Russell, and dozens more. In addition, the Legacy Collection includes contemporary trailblazers who continue to perform and influence culture today.

@sadlers_wells and @breakinconvention present the Hip Hop Games on Stratford Waterfront in @queenelizabetholympicpark this summer ahead of Breaking’s inaugural appearance at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games (@olympics) and the opening of Sadler’s Wells East. On Saturday 3 August from 12-7pm, eight east London dancers will compete across two teams in a hip hop dance improvisation game with a series of different creative challenges in a free event for all the family.

The Hip Hop Games is a concept born in France in 2011 from dancer, choreographer and artistic director Romuald Brizolier and is the first concept that offers a hip hop dance improvisation game staged through various creative challenges. The Hip Hop Games has since toured internationally, bringing together dancers from across the world and gaining widespread recognition.  

To continue marking Breaking’s debut in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Sadler’s Wells and Breakin’ Convention are inviting visitors to watch the Breaking Olympic finals at free live watching parties on Friday 9 & Saturday 10 August. The Breaking Olympic Watch Parties will take place at Riverside East, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park with DJs from BBC 1Xtra and will include panel talks with breakers involved in the Olympic qualifiers. #arts #dance #hiphop #breaking #streetdance #krump #olympics #olympics2024

To celebrate our birthday this year on Sunday 14th To celebrate our birthday this year on Sunday 14th July, we’ll be returning with another Mindfulness workshop led by practitioner @meganmattravers to take place on Instagram Live at 1pm, this will be a 30 minute workshop focused on keeping us in the present moment. This will then be followed by a 45 minute Pilates workshop at 3:15, also on Instagram Live led by @sib_meienberg. The session is suitable for beginners, and we ask if possible, to make sure you have a yoga/exercise mat with you, and a bottle of water.
