Underbelly, New Diorama Theatre and Concord Theatricals are thrilled to announce this year’s winners for the hit-making Edinburgh Untapped Award – designed to support and discover theatre makers at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The three winning companies who will receive a £10,000 cash grant to support their show in Edinburgh are, Counterfactual, piss / Carnation and Our Day. A major new training programme for early-career theatre-makers, THE KNOT brings together a cohort of 25 participants to explore and interrogate the essential skills needed to create work on their own terms at a time when the business of theatre has never felt tougher.

Programmed in partnership between London’s multi-award-winning New Diorama Theatre, world-leading higher education institute Guildhall School of Music & Drama and Black-led production and development company Uproot, the week-long bootcamp-style programme takes place over 11-15 December 2023 and consists of workshops, seminars and panels around business skills and career development. Primarily hosted at Guildhall School in City of London, THE KNOT will also include off-site trips and a party at Theatre Deli’s Leadenhall Street venue – with networking drinks curated by Pan-Asian cabaret collective The Bitten Peach.

Discovered by archaeologists earlier on this year in Indonesia, in the Leang Tedongne limestone cave situated on Sulawesi Island, wall etchings dating back roughly 37,500 years have captured imagination. An animal cave painting depicting a narrative up for interpretation, it’s said that this is one of the world’s oldest known art works. Delving into this new find in their latest show Deciphering, Curious Directive, in collaboration with Indonesian artist collective Bombo, merge the old world with the new, technology a new frontier as it compliments the recent discovery’s level of scale and wonder.

A theatre that invites a variety of work through its doors, produced by individual theatre companies, presents Voyager, a new devised show collaboratively created by Idle Motion. A devised show of a cast of five, Voyager, is an exploration into our nature using imagery and enlightened storytelling. Creatively presented, this show is inspired by the story of The Golden Record and the 1977 Voyager spacecraft, embarking on its journey of discovery.

It’s not often we celebrate the idiosyncrasies of dogs; the only time the much loved pets have their moment in the spotlight is either for a Dog’s Trust Campaign or during the pomp and pageantry of C.R.U.F.T.S. Described as a ‘man’s best friend’, there’s no doubt that dogs hold a very important affinity to the family household, often considered as an additional family member. Watching a production about dogs may not necessarily sound as appealing a subject matter at first glance, however can Kandinsky‘s Dog Show challenge this perception?

Down and Out in Paris and London is a brand new theatrical take on George Orwell’s autobiographical novel, with a modern twist. It is in collaboration with PIT and Greenwich Theatre, with supporting funds from Arts Council England. Written and directed by the New Diorama Theatre’s artistic director, David Byrne and co-directed by Kate Stanley, it is now experiencing sell out performances at the Pleasance Theatre, Edinburgh.
