Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf @ ADC Theatre (The Corpus Playroom) Review

As the alcohol flows, the stage is set for a night of drunken debauchery and revelations. In an uncomfortably hot theatre, the suffocating, inescapable realities of Albee’s characters, extend into the auditorium. Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf is a complex telling of a martial breakdown, a challenging premise but approached with admirable commitment at the Corpus Playroom.

The Oresteia @ The ADC Theatre Review

Greek tragedy on a week night is always a risk, but The Marlowe Society do not disappoint with their courageous The Oresteia. The cataclysm is beautifully presented, addictive and compelling to watch, it strips the theatre to a cavernous space and offers it a place to breathe.

The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui @ The ADC Theatre Review

Corrupt business propositions and anarchic violence are shrouded under the brim of the gangster hat. In the ruling dictatorship of Arturo Ui, Brecht’s Hitler parody is a gangster spectacle, but this production lacks the bite they so often chew over.

Dream Sequence (Cambridge Footlights International Show) @ The ADC Theatre Review

With a history of accolade and alumni, Cambridge Footlights brings with it great expectations and this is promised in its International Show. In prime, Dream Sequence is a sketch show, hilarious, farcical and extremely amusing, it displays a wide range of skits. Ever wondered if Voldemort prank called Professor Snape, or what actually occurs in a political boardroom or the idea that ‘Desert Island Discs’ might actually be a true fate? Weaving from moment to moment, the absurdity grows but the connection remains nonexistent.

Two @ The ADC Theatre (Corpus Playroom Cambridge) Review

There are pub owners and pub punters- Two presents them all. Jim Cartwright’s play is a journal of people, displaying the interactions, emotions and fears of its pub locals. Explosive dialogue, comedic dance sequences and intimate monologues contain the familiar stories witnessed in such establishments. Two people running a pub, a husband and wife, who under the weight of everyday life put their troubles to one side, but they cannot be disregarded indefinitely.

BED @ The ADC Theatre, Cambridge Review

One bed, seven actors and a large amount of absurd dialogue. Jim Cartwright‘s, award winning play entertains at The ADC Theatre, presented by Cambridge University Amateur Dramatic Club. An illogical fantasy dialogue closely connected with our own experiences of bed, Cartwright obsesses over the construct of sleep, insomnia and the longing for a glass of water.
