October 2017 marks 30 years since the creation of ‘Black History Month‘ a month dedicated to celebrating the contributions of African and Caribbean immigrants within the UK. All month long, events around the UK take place to acknowledge this important month, The Brixton Midnight Run an event taking its audience on a tour around South London.
A pleasant enough piece by an upbeat collection of actors, but unfortunately not quite a knock out performance overall. Jane Austen’s much loved romantic thriller Pride and Prejudice is well adapted partly I feel by the Mock the Week comedian Sara Pascoe, in the sense that it adopts a well thought out series of puns that really tickles at the core of Austen’s work. However, in parts it feels like watching several different versions of the story all at once.

(the fall of) The Master Builder is certainly one to make a note of. This emotional rollercoaster of a production brings to light the struggles of the man of the hour and Master Builder UK, Halvard Solness (Reece Dinsindale) and the dark past threatening to destroy his seemingly perfect life.
Said to be the longest epic poem in existence, the Mahabharata is one of the most important Indian texts. A Hindu epic written in Sanskrit, the long form poem maps out the Kuruksetra War and the fates of Kaurakava and Pandava princes. The Mahabharata is highly revered as a text containing philosophical principles and also makes reference to another incredibly important text, the Ramayana. Inspired by one of the most significant female characters within the Mahabharata, Sharanya Ramprakash takes the story of Draupadi and crafts a piece Speaking up about gender inequality.
Uisenma Borchu is a German-Mongolian film director, based in Munich. After several acclaimed documentaries such as Donne-moi plus (2007) and Himmel voller Geigen (2011), her feature film debut Schau mich nicht so an (Don’t Look at Me That Way) won the Bavarian Film Award in 2016.
Nachts, als die Sonne für mich schien (At Night, When the Sun was Shining for Me) is Uisenma Borchu’s first work for the theatre and the Kammerspiele present this world premiere at their studio space Kammer 3.

I’m ashamed to say that I saw Warhorse for the first time last week. The first time. After watching Jane Eyre earlier this year I knew that Warhorse would not disappoint. I just cannot believe it’s taken me so long to see it.
Settling back into my seat at The Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury and watching the hundreds of people packing into the theatre, the buzz and atmosphere is incredible. I feel incredibly lucky to be sat in that audience, as a reviewer.

Thanks Here’s what to expect from the NT in 2018. Let’s start with the Olivier. Ian Rickson is set to direct Brian Friel’s Translations, a powerful account of language and nationhood. The show will be actor Colin Morgan’s NT debut and will feature designs by Rae Smith, lighting by Neil Austin and music by Stephen Warbeck. Translations opens in May 2018.
We have all experienced at least one disastrous Christmas, where the turkey is inedible or the cranberry sauce is missing, but Sam Holcroft’s version of a family Christmas is altogether torn apart. Awaiting the return of male patriarch Francis, Edith cleans her way through despair, whilst her two sons Adam and Matthew set the table for the expectation of a perfect family lunch. However, war breaks out over the dining table, and an indulgent farce is embarked upon.
